Seasonal Scenery

Hello Fellow Bloggers,

Although we have been missing for a bit more than a couple of years we have not forgotten the enjoyment of this blogger site.  We see that many changes have taken place here in the interim and hopefully we will meet the challenge of doing it right.
Our lovely summer is slowly changing into autumn however in spite of same many people are still enjoying the tail end of lazy days on the beach
which is located approximately ten minutes by car from our home.
Thank you for checking our site and enjoy the rest of your day.

Sunshine

It is SO good to see sunshine and green grass! Looks like we weren't the only ones that were enjoying it today.

Saskatoon Blossoms

We took this photo a few houses down the block from our own home. These are saskatoon blossoms that are randomly found on the mountain slopes. Saskatoons are a form of eatable wild berry which actually make a very tasty pie. They can also be frozen or preserved as a winter fruit.

Contrast

This time of year the greening of the lawn creates a very visible contrast again the snow topped mountains in the foregound.

More Snow

We have flowers that are blooming and grass that is greening up. What a surprise to look out the front and see snow this morning!! Thank goodness that it started to rain later in the morning which became high and dry by mid afternoon. We will see what other surprises might be in store.

Hardy Falls Creek

Hardy Falls are located a few minutes southwest of West Kelowna. It's a beautiful walking trail in the summer and a fertile salmon spawning area in the fall. This trail is extensively treed and laden with accompanying vegetation. As such the trail and creek are still covered with a blanket of ice and snow.

Brisk Day

Today was another brisk day at the lake. Our normally moderate weather pattern has been broken by the lowest temperatures in the Okanagan in approximately 40 years.

Mushing

Mushing is a term for a sport that involves the use of one or more dogs to pull a sled on snow. Although very popular in northern climates this site is generally unseen in the Okanagan until we happened upon a couple who travel to Crystal Mountain on a regular basis and use mushing as a form of exercise for their beautiful dogs.

Ski Hill

Crystal mountain is located approximatley 15 minutes northwest from West Kelowna. Open from Thursday to Monday, it's a family oriented beginners ski hill.

Short Shorts

This jogger obviously has a better endurance level then the rest of us. Note his short shorts, quite a striking contrast against the whiteness of the surrounding snow.

Delta View

A sunny day warranted a stroll through City Park which presented a view of the Delta Hotel complex, an accumulation of condo apartment dwellings and the marina in the foreground.

Bubbling Brook

Surprise, surprise an unexpected skiff of snow overnight. On the positive side everything is bright and clean once again as depicted by this brook.

Late Spring

Traveling eastbound on Hwy #97 we catch a glimpse of the northern portion of West Kelowna in the foreground. Being a late spring for these parts, this lacks the greenery that we would normally begin to enjoy.

Little White Mountain

Situated on the outskirts of Kelowna and barely 350 meters above Okanagan Lake rests Little White Mountain with an elevation of nearly 2,200 meters. It consists of approximately 20,000 hectares of diverse forest including growth of Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir trees at the lower elevation, a hotspring at the midsection and uniquely beautiful alpine meadows near the summit. Carved with deep walled canyons, cliffs and granite slopes Little White is a wilderness asset to be treasured with its habitat of grizzly bear, elk and mountain goat.

Sunshine

Looking out today we see that the sun is shining, the snow is quickly disappearing and a boat is skimming over the lake obviously enjoying the first spin of many more such days to come.

Sunshine

They promised us sun and it came to pass, lol. What a joy to see the sun today! Our valley is usually plagued by a degree of low cloud during the winter months, however, this was by far an extended period of time. Spirits have lifted and optimism prevails.

Sun Spot

Until today we hadn't seen the sun for a while. Hopefully this sunspot is a positive sign of whats around the horizon.

Boating By Moonlight

It is rumored that Okanagan Lake froze over only the one time many many years ago. As such the lake is a source of activity even during the winter months. Here we have a hearty enthusiast who is boating by moonlight
