Winglets

The runway's expansion has moved the Kelowna Airport from a continental to an intercontinental status. Large aircraft coming and going via direct flights will soon be the norm, not the exception. You will note that the wing tips of this particular aircraft are vertically extended.. These tips are called Winglets, an aeronautic innovation which slows the air off of the tips of the wings, making the plane more stable reducing aerodynamic drag associated with vortices that develop at the wing tips as the plane moves through the air. Fuel consumption is reduced, the plane moves faster and the range is extended.

Thanks for the link to Big White. I don't ski, but my husband does, and he'll be so envious!

Wow! I've often wondered what the science behind the "winglets" was. Now I know!

Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope to see you there again sometime. I've enjoyed looking through some of your pictures.
